Stock Market Today: Following the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, the Maharashtra State Government has declared a public holiday on Monday, January 22, 2024. As a result, trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Exchange (NSE) will be suspended today. So, the Indian exchange has announced a stock market holiday on January 22, 2024, following a partial modification to their circular dated December 26, 2023.

As a result, there will be no action in the Equity, Equity Derivative, and SLB segments today. Trading in the currency derivatives segment will also be suspended at the Indian stock market today due to the Ayodhya Ram Mandir’s ‘Pran Prathshtha’ ceremony.

Trading in the Commodity Derivatives and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) segments will be suspended from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the morning session. However, trading will resume at 5:00 PM in the evening session. This means, there will be no action on MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity Exchange) from morning 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In a press statement, the NSE said, “In partial modification to Exchange circular reference no. 59917 dated December 26, 2023, the Exchange hereby notifies Monday, January 22, 2024, as a trading holiday on account of a public holiday declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.” On Monday, the stock market was marked off.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the following statement informing the public of the public holiday that Maharashtra will observe on January 22, 2024: “The government of Maharashtra has declared January 22, 2024, as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.” Therefore, on January 22, 2024 (Monday), there will be no transactions or settlements in government securities (primary and secondary), foreign exchange, money markets, and Rupee interest rate derivatives. This is a modification of the press release 2023-2024/1710 that was issued earlier today regarding “Market Trading Hours on January 22, 2024.” As a result, settlement of all outstanding transactions will be delayed until Tuesday, January 23, 2024, which is the next working day.”

Therefore, from the perspective of the stock market, this week will be shortened. The Indian stock market will be closed on Friday, January 26, 2024, in observance of Republic Day, which is observed nationwide, according to the list of stock market holidays in 2024. This means that this week’s Monday and Friday trading on the Indian stock market will continue to be suspended. That is to say, this week (Tuesday through Thursday) there will only be three trade sessions.
